In the context of the "double-first-class" construction and the reality of the low quality of undergraduate education in China,it is necessary to improve the degree of academic challenge of college students and provide an important guarantee for the development of the first-class undergraduate education,it is an urgent problem to be solved in China's undergraduate education.In order to understand the current situation of academic challenge degree in Z University,this study refers to the dimension of Academic Challenge Degree in NSSE-China as the basic tool of this research,the quality of undergraduate education in colleges and universities is measured by paying attention to students' engagement in the learning process.According to the existing literature and Research,the academic challenge in this study is measured from three aspects: School Curriculum,teacher teaching and student learning performance.Based on the existing questionnaire and the scale,the author developed a self-made questionnaire to investigate the degree of academic challenge of Z undergraduates in the construction of "double first-class" universities,from the school curriculum,students' learning performance and teachers' teaching requirements to understand the status quo of their academic challenges.Based on the reliability and validity of the questionnaire,the collected data were statistically analyzed.The results show that the degree of academic challenge in Z university is relatively low,and Different gender,grade,discipline background of the students perceived the level of challenge has a certain difference.The regression analysis shows that the model composed of four dimensions of school curriculum,students' learning performance,students' learning tasks and teachers' teaching requirements is the best to explain the overall level of academic challenge.The results show that the overall level of academic challenges in Z university is low,mainly due to the lack of high-level curriculum,the low teaching requirements of teachers,and the insufficient amount of students' academic tasks,based on the results of data analysis and interviews,this paper analyzes the reasons for the low level of academic challenge in Z University from three levels: school,teacher and student,there are some reasons,such as the low level of the course objective,the low content of the course content,the single teaching method,the low teaching requirement,the lack of the students' learning input,the insufficient training of reading and writing,and the unscientific learning method.On the basis of finding out the problems and causes,the author puts forward the countermeasures to improve the degree of academic challenge from different subjects,mainly from the curriculum focus on high-level requirements,increase the content of the course gold content,teachers to enhance teaching capacity and requirements,to strengthen students' reading and writing training.With the joint efforts of schools,teachers and students,we hope to improve the degree of academic challenge and the quality of undergraduate education in Z university.
