At present,Chinese society is in a critical period of transformation and upgrading of industrial structure.The key to transformation and upgrading of industrial structure is to train high-quality application talents with innovative spirit.However,there are still some problems in the process of transformation of newly-built undergraduate colleges in China,for example,The orientation of the cultivation of applied talents in newly-built undergraduate colleges is inaccurate,the discipline and professional settings are out of line with the needs of market-oriented industries,the teaching model is single,the practice links are poor,the students' innovation awareness and practical ability are weak.As one of the world's powerful countries in higher education,The United States has not only trained world-class academic research talents,but also trained a large number of high-quality applied talents.This paper studies the cultivation of applied talents in American colleges and universities through literature research and case study.Learning from the training experience of applied talents in the United States has important practical guiding significance on promoting the transformation of newly-built undergraduate colleges,deepening the reform of teaching mode and improving the quality of training applied talents.This paper is divided into five parts.The first part is introduction.This paper mainly introduces the research background,research purpose and significance,research trends at home and abroad,and defines the core concepts of “applies talents”“talent cultivation”and “ American universities and colleges”.The second part is about the development history of applied talents in American universities and colleges.The development history of applied talents training introduce of the unites states is divided into three parts:germination,development and formation.The third part is about the training characteristics of applied talents in American universities and colleges.Through the introduction of the development history,four training characteristic of applied talents are summarized:Talent training has the tendency of professionalization,curriculum setting according to local economic development,diversification of training institutions and legalization of training system.The fourth part is the research on the training path of applied talents in American universities and colleges.The training path of applied talents in American universities and colleges should meet the needs of the society to train innovative and entrepreneurial talents,establish a practice-oriented vocational curriculum system,establish an interdisciplinary education system,and build a team of double-qualified teachers.The fifth part is about the enlightenment ofcultivating applied talents in American universities and colleges.This paper analyzes the problems existing in the training of applied talents in local universities in our country,and puts forward some beneficial experiences for the training applied talents,establishing a practice-oriented curriculum teaching system,reforming and perfecting the training mode of applied talents,building a team of double-qualified teachers,and formulating and perfecting the legal system for the training of applied talents.
