Novel teaching is an important part of high school Chinese teaching.How to read novels is an urgent problem for Chinese teachers in high school.Close reading is a method of criticism advocated by Anglo-American New Criticism and has its own independent theoretical system.Although it can be applied to high school Chinese teaching,it cannot be copied in its entirety.From the perspective of Chinese teaching in high school,close reading presents three characteristics as follows.First,it's to attach importance to words and phrases and interpret multiple meanings as they are used in a text;second,pay attention to context,exploring connotative and figurative meanings of literal content;third,analyze the structure of texts and determine central ideas or themes of a text.The three characteristics lay a solid foundation for the innovation of Chinese novel teaching in high school.The 2017 edition of Criteria for Chinese Course in High School puts forward the concept of Chinese core literacy,which,with the combination of close reading,can effectively promote the teaching of novels in high school.Close reading and Chinese core literacy are complementary.Chinese core literacy shows the way for close reading.Close reading is also an important means to cultivate Chinese core literacy.The combination of the two will provide a specific operational methodology for the innovation of Chinese novel teaching in high school.Since the construction and use of language is the basis of Chinese core literacy,teachers should follow the pattern of "close reading+X" when setting teaching objectives."X" here refers to one or more objectives applicable to the text.In this mode,the innovative points of Chinese novel teaching in high school from the perspective of close reading are as follows.The first is to combine close reading of the text with the construction and application of the language,focusing on language accumulation and arrangement of rules;the second is to combine close reading of the text with the improvement of thinking skills,applying thought guidance and comparative reading;the third is to combine close reading of the text with the aesthetic appreciation,cultural inheritance and understanding,taking close reading of the novel language as the foundation of improving the aesthetic and cultural understanding ability.Under the guidance of this mode,close reading of the novel in the classroom will have its own focus and be colorful.
