The essential purpose of education is to pursue all-around development for students.China's curriculum standards specify the focus of education should be on improving students' core qualities,developing their interest in science,strengthening their innovational and hands-on abilities,cultivating their scientific thinking,and realizing their moral development.Physics teaching can contribute partially to students' all-around development.Experiments are a major way to learn physics.Therefore,experiment teaching instruments are indispensable for physics learning.However,it is unrealistic for the learning of all knowledge points to be equipped with corresponding experimental devices.Under the condition,self-made teaching aids become an effective supplementation to experiment teaching aids in physics teaching,which can effectively contribute to the formation of students' core qualities in physics.Through literature review,the author learns the research status of self-made teaching aids at home and abroad,and discovers that systematic research and self-made teaching aids of mechanics learning in physics are lacking.The field survey indicates that experiment instruments in the current stage cannot effectively satisfy practical demands of teaching activities.It is also revealed that a majority of teachers in senior high schools lack the experience and training to make teaching aids on their own,meaning that their self-made teaching aid ability is calling for improvement.Nevertheless,the senior high school physics learning has a great demand for self-made teaching aids,which are extremely popular among teachers and students.This paper concentrates on studying the making and application of self-made teaching aids for mechanics learning of senior high school physics,and highlighting the instructional function of self-made teaching aids.After referring to relevant literatures and books,the author summarizes basic requirements,methods and procedures for improvement and innovation of self-made teaching aids.From the perspective of design thinking,making methods,applications to teaching activities,and characteristics of teaching aids,the author makes some teaching aids for mechanics learning,including the instrument to probe into the interaction force,the instrument to demonstrate the horizontal projectile motion,etc.These teaching aidsare made to not only supplement the experiment instrument needs of mechanics teaching in senior high school physics,but also provide references for self-made teaching aids of forefront teachers.Combining the experience in making teaching aids,the author proposes four suggestions for improvement or innovation of teaching aids.First,teachers should be ready to observe,think,try and cooperate.Second,teachers should pay attention to or organize students for material collection.Third,schools should vigorous support self-making of teaching aids,and provide necessary conditions,including the tools,grounds and funds,for self-made teaching aids.Fourth,relevant educational departments should organize training,such as organize training or seminars.Under the guidance of theoretical knowledge,the author seeks applications of self-made teaching aids to teaching activities for an applied research.Two classes are chosen from the school where the author works as an intern.The experiment class is taught with the self-made teaching aids and encouraged to participate in self-making of teaching aids.Experiment results show that self-made teaching aids can combine life with physics knowledge so that students can “learn by doing”.Additionally,use of self-made teaching aids in teaching activities can deepen students' understanding of physics knowledge,improve their ability to put their knowledge into practice,strengthen students' interest in learning physics,and promote the construction of students' internal learning motive.To have students participating in self-making teaching aids can not only hone their hands-on skills,but also effectively enhance their teamwork awareness and ability.Hereby,two suggestions are proposed for the teaching process.First,teachers should spark students' interest in self-making teaching aids,and prompt them to take the initiative to make the teaching aids on their own.Second,relevant courses with school characteristics should be offered,and specific grounds set up to demonstrate the self-made teaching aids.In the process of teaching,some students are found to be creative,who always have some new ideas to share with teachers and other students.Therefore,it is important to motivate students to participate in self-making teaching aids,which can constantly improve or innovate teaching aids,thus realizing “teaching benefiting teachers as well as students”.To sum up,it is hoped that this research can facilitate experiment teaching of mechanics in senior high school physics,but also provide references for making andapplication of self-made teaching aids among first-line teachers.In this way,the instructional function of self-made teaching aids can be better displayed to better improve students' core physics qualities.
