The May Fourth Movement promoted the development of China's anti-feudalism,began to advocate the westernization theory,and started a new era of literature.Under this background,the education system also began to change.The "Reform of the School System"(Renxu School System)issued in October 1921,which is called the new school system,borrowed from the "June Three Three" school system in the United States and created a new situation in China's education.In 1923,the "Junior High School Music Curriculum Outline" further suggested that music theory should be a compulsory course for music lessons,so as to improve the status of music theory.Xiao Youmei,as a pioneer of modern professional music education and one of the important advocates of "new music",set goals for music lessons in accordance with the principles of aesthetic education,personally participated in the compilation of curriculum standards,and personally compiled a series of music teaching materials,made great contributions to the development of modern school music education.This article takes the "New School System Music Theory Textbooks"(six volumes)written by Xiao Youmei under the guidance of the new school system as the research subject,combining the general background of school music education and music theory development at the time,in order to comprehensively and carefully grasp the content and composition of the main body of the textbooks and the ideas value.This article uses Marxist materialist dialectics as a methodological guide,fully uses the literature method,comparative analysis method,and analysis induction method to conduct a detailed study of the "New School System Music Theory Textbooks",make a comprehensive analysis of publication timeline,textbook editingideas,directory framework,text content,graphic examples,and after-school exercises of the six volumes of textbooks,so as to study the textbook as comprehensively as possible.First of all,comb the editor's music career,analyze the writing background of the textbook,the editor's intention and the writing situation of the music theory textbook at the same time,and then describe the origin of the textbooks as a whole.Finally,by studying the main body of the textbooks,summarize its characteristics:systematic,comprehensive,professionalism,personality,etc.This article aims at this set of music theory textbooks for nearly a century,and strives to make a fair evaluation of it through historical and contemporary perspectives,and compares it with Wu Bochao's "Bei Xin Music Theory",and considers that "New School System Music Theory Textbooks" are professional,comprehensive and practical textbooks which have a clear editorial intention and main line of writing.They are excellent works of the same era and have a deep influence.It not only has the brand of the times,but also conforms to the development of the times.It not only promotes the development of history but also is limited by history.It can provide reference for the compilation of current music theory textbooks writing and help avoid some problems.
