In China, more than one hundred million of rural migrant workers move and live both urban and rural areas.Considering the maximization of family interests and the fact that it is hard to migrate all family members, the phenomenon that a great number of rural left-behind children who experience long-term parents-child separation appears. It is difficult to deny that rural left-behind children face more difficulties and challenges compared with non-left-behind children, and their development path is harder and more tortuous. However, among the left-behind children who also experience parent-child separation, some children show stronger adaptability,So the overall development is good or even more excellent. What is the status of adaptation for parent-child separation ? What factors can affect the left-behind children's adaptability of parent-child separation? Can social work major provide effective intervention strategies at a practical level? These are the questions the author of this research wants to explore.Using qualitative research methods and guided by cognitive behavior theory and advantage perspective theory, this research generally intervene in the adaptability of left-behind children to deal with parent-child separation. The whole research includes three parts. The first part is the research analysis part. The data contains two aspects. One is related literature, which contains the searching documents involved in left-behind children,parent-child separation, and group work. The other is the data of deep interviews and participatory observations.Regarding MF Primary School as a case source,30 deep interviews with left-behind children were obtained.Through the analysis of the two aspects of the data,it clearly describes the current development feature of adaptation for left-behind children's parent-child separation situation, and clarifies the factors that affect the adaptability for parent-child separation situation. They are cognition, coping capacity and social support. In terms of the influencing factors, the second part carried out supportive and educational group work interventions for 16 left-behind children, proposed the cultivation strategy of adaptability for parent-child separation, and provided a reference intervention scheme for practitioners. The third part is the summary part, which analyzes the effectiveness of group intervention and reflects on the research design and action process.Based on the above research, the author believes that during a short time, under the premise of “left-behind children are left behind”,improving the adaptability for parent-child separation is a key point, which can be a new direction to serve left-behind children.Group work has methodological advantages in terms of the intervention for left-behind children. The intervention of adaptability for left-behind children's parent-child separation can be divided into three steps. One is the rationalization of left-behind children's cognition, which emphasize on cultivating left-behind children's sense of self-worth and rational cognition of parent-child separation. The second is the intervention to improve left-behind children's coping abilities, which can begin with emotional management, situational identification and problem judgment. The third is to construct social support for left-behind children, including the perception, exploration, and utilize of family, school, peer, village and so on.
