Education is the foundation of a nation,teaching plays pivotal role in education.The instructional teaching model of 5E(Engage,Explore,Explain,Elaborate and Evaluate),which involves five sections of instruction,is believed world widely one of the effective teaching methods to be able to improve the understanding process of students to science and knowledge.In the Compulsory Education Biology Curriculum Standards(2011 edition),some new teaching concepts has been proposed for biology teachers in their teaching practice biology teaching,in which some suggestions that biology teachers should pay more attention to improving the biology science literacy of students and inducing inquiry-based learning to the students in their teaching activities.To meet the requirements of the new Curriculum Standards,the teaching model of 5E was implemented in our biology teaching.Biology as an experiment-based subject,the biology teaching should pay more attention to the teaching in experiment.To improve effect of the experiment teaching,we explored to integrate the 5E teaching model into the biology experiment teaching and designed some teaching strategies and implemented the practical teaching activities in a junior middle school in Wuhai,Inner-Mongolia.Considering that 5E Teaching Mode is different from conventional teaching modes,the principles applicable to 5E teaching mode was proposed in that the teaching should be inspiring,exploring,self-motivated,practical,sequential and comprehensive.Correspondingly,teaching process was also proposed to be in following step: selecting materials and determining contents;analyzing curriculum standards and setting teaching objectives;developing detail teaching plans according curriculum standards;implementing teaching plans and carrying out actual teaching(to design,modify and improve experimental plans orderly based on students-centered principle and to establish new concepts);summarizing and improving,making reflection and getting perfection.Two classes(control and tested)from the seventh grade of the middle school were taken to conduct in parallel teaching experiments we designed.One class was implemented with the instructional teaching model of 5E taken another class as control with the conventional teaching model.The effects of the 5E teaching model integrated into the biology experiment teaching were tested by examination for experiment problem,questionnaires about their enthusiasm in students and interviews with the teachers of city the internship carried on.The testing result showed that:(1)the average score of the examination in experiment class(17.25)was significantly higher than that of the control class(14.39)(P<0.05);(2)the questionnaire survey on the learning enthusiasm of the students after the teaching experiment implemented revealed that the enthusiasm of the students in the experiment class(21.87)was improved significantly compared with the control class(20.00)(P=0.037<0.05);(3)evaluation of the learning attitude and method demonstrated that the scores were 39.97 for experiment class and 40.13 for control class respectively,showing no difference between them(P=0.91>0.05);(4)appraising for exploring ability of the students given out that there was a extremely significant difference between the experimental class(20.08)and the control class(17.68)(P=0.003<0.01).From the results,we concluded that the 5E teaching model was practicable for biology experiment teaching in junior middle school,because it significantly increased the examination score in experiment problem,stimulated the enthusiasm of the students in the lab experiments and improved their exploring ability,although it did not show obvious correction effect in their learning attitude and method.
