In recent years, with the development of economy and the acceleration of urbanization, large quantities of rural labor force have entered the cities to look for working opportunities. With more and more empty nesters left in the countryside, the problems are becoming more and more serious.Compared with the urban areas, the rural areas have a larger population, underdeveloped economy, imperfect infrastructure and pension system. Therefore, the rural empty nesters are facing more difficulties. Now,our country is at the critical stage of getting rid of poverty and it is imperative to improve the life quality of rural empty nesters, which not only can promote social justice and harmonious development, but also has a significant effect on building a well-off society in an all-round way and implementing the Rural Revitalization Strategy. This paper takes the empty nesters in L village as an example to study their problems and propose solutions.Based on Maslow's hierachy of needs and social support theory, this paper analyzes the current situation and the needs of empty nesters in L village through questionnaires, interviews and other field survey methods. It is found that the empty nesters in L village are mainly faced with the difficulties of insufficient material life care, low level of health care, less social interaction and entertainment. The main reasons for these problems are the decline of the health, the weakening of family pension, the lack of community support, the short of government funding, and the inadequate implementation of policies. As to the problems above, this paper puts forward solutions from the view of social work: at first,we should give counsel individually to improve their self-care ability;second,we should raise the children's home care awareness and improve community services;finally,we should vigorously develop township enterprises, reduce the outflow of the young, seek for government support, increase the rural infrastructure construction, and strive to solve the plight of rural empty nesters and improve their lives from these aspects.
