On Middle School Education Of Xishan Yan's Era In Taiyuan(1917-1937)

Tn the first 20 years of Xishan Yan's “model management” in Shanxi,education was a very important content,and all kinds of education in Shanxi have made great progress.Thanks to Xishan Yan's support,education in Shanxi has developed rapidly with the support of the government.Xishan Yan founded two middle schools in Taiyuan,and under it's influence,private secondary schools in Taiyuan have been divided to establish.In the 1920 s,the knowledge who is enthusiastic about education,especially the scholars who came back from abroad,devoted themselves to the education in Taiyuan,which made middle school education in Taiyuan develop vigorously and have good teaching quality.This article mainly launches the research from the following several aspects: one is the situation of middle school education of Yan's era in Taiyuan,analysis under the impetus of Yan's at that time,the number of middle schools in Shanxi and general situation of diversified development of Taiyuan middle school education;the second is middle school education and teaching of Yan's era in Taiyuan,discuss the curriculum,teachers and teaching methods of Taiyuan middle school,summarize the characteristics of Taiyuan middle school education andteaching at that time;and the last one is the thinking about middle school education of Yan's era in Taiyuan,trying to analyse the reasons why the development of Taiyuan middle school education was limited and did not achieve great development.Through the investigation and analysis of the above problems,this paper shows the historical fact of Yan's influence and promotion on Taiyuan middle school education as a local administrator in the 1920 s and1930s.It also provides reference for studying the development of Taiyuan middle school education.Due to the limitation of history,there were limitations in Yan's educational thought,Taiyuan middle school education had been influenced by many aspects and failed to achieve the expected results,but the defect cannot obscure the virtues,it has certain research value.
