Recent years,leader humour has attracted considerable interest of foreign scholars given its various constructive functions that includes releasing stress,lubricating communication,enhancing positive emotions,etc.However,in the context of China,influenced by the Confucian culture,leaders are often serious,restrained,scornful and seldom use humour in communication.The lack of practice results in the lack of attention of academic community to this research hotspot.Yet,under the background that corporate employees are increasingly eager for an interesting and healthy work environment,researchers' neglect may hinder the promotion of a new and effective management approach,and thus hinder the construction of a better work environment.Aiming at this problem,two questions are raised in this study:(1)Can leader humour enhance management process in Chinese context?(2)If so,for what kind of employee this effect is more effective?In order to clarify these two issues,this study has introduced the concept ofjob-related wellbeing,selected three constructs: job satisfaction,work engagement and emotional exhaustion.We also introduce need for affiliation as a moderate variable and take the humor's social theory,affective events theroy and resource theory as the theoretical foundations to construct a hypothetical model.Based on 396 corporate samples,empirical analysis was conducted using factor analysis,correlation analysis,and regression analysis to obtain the following two main conclusions:(1)Leader humour can effectively promote employees' job well-being,positively predict employees' job satisfaction and work engagement,and negatively predict employees' emotional exhaustion,which proves that in the context of china,leadership humour can enhance the management process and can be promoted as an effective management tool.(2)For whom that has high level need for affiliation,the ability of leader humor's reducing emotional exhaustion is stronger,which demonstrating that leader humour may have different effects on different types of employees.Finally,based on the results of the research,this paper stands in the perspective of business management,and gives relevant suggestions from the perspectives of emphatically using humor tools and paying attention to individual adjustment.And points out some limitations and prospects for future research.
