In the new round of the global technological revolution and the industrial revolution,the development of the Internet provides an opportunity for the dissemination of science information,which makes the construction project of the "Internet plus popular science" come into being.Science communication based on the network has become an effective way and means of the popularization of science.As the main communication platform of the science knowledge on the network,popular science website has become the backbone of science communication.Compared with foreign countries,China's popular science websites is late.At present,the science knowledge on the network in China is at the stage of forming but not ripe,at the same time its development is relatively mature abroad especially in some developed countries.What is the gap between the construction of popular science websites at home and abroad?What are the characteristics of each of them?Content and form are the fundamental and important parts in the of construction website.Therefore,this study focuses on the content and form to compare the popular science websites at home and abroad to provide constructive suggestions for the construction of the popular science websites in China.This study takes the popular science websites in China,the US and the UK as the research objects.First,find out the popular science websites of this three countries as much as possible.Then,use the webmaster tools to make statistics on the global ranking and scientific field ranking of these websites surveyed.Finally,select the ten top ranked websites of each country as the final research objects.At the same time,construct the analysis framework of content with three dimensions: the basic situation,the content subject and the audience object,and the analysis framework of the expression form with the three dimensions : the basic forms of expression,the form of informationcommunication and the form of user interaction.So comparative and analyze the characteristics and differences of contents and forms of the popular science websites in three countries.Finally,select only one popular science website from each country to do a case study.The conclusions obtained through this study are as follows:First,the conclusions of the comparative study of the content of the website are as follows:(1)from the view of the creation time of the sites,the United States is relatively forward,mainly after 1995,followed by Britain(before 2000),and China(around 2000).From the of view of sponsors,the Educational and scientific research institutions is an important force for the construction of the popular science website in both China and the US.And the websites constructed by the nonprofit organization is largest.As a whole,the number of the websites of individual type is the least at abroad,while the contribution of the government to the construction of popular science websites is still relatively weakin China,with the least number of the websites.(2)The content of natural science is dominant in the popular science websites of three countries: the theme of climate and environment is the most.But compared with China,the United States and Britain pay more attention to the content construction of humanities and social sciences,mainly focused on history,economy and education.At the same time,the content about religion,ethics and politics are also rich.(3)From the perspective of audience targeting,popular science websites of American and British is clearer,and the target of most websites in China is the public.On the basis of the public,the United States emphasizes the goal of highly educated people and educators.The audience targeting of the UK is the most clear while more than half of the websites have specific goal with children and adolescents as the major target audience.Secondly,the conclusions of the comparative study of the form are shown below:(1)the basic form of three countries is rich but the combination of pictures and texts is still used most widely.Abroad,"Podcast" is the main form of audio while there are almost no internet radio stations in China.Besides Gif dynamic graph and flash game,the websites like to use JS interactive animation on the front page at abroad.(2)Information dissemination forms such as news,topic and subject content are most common at home and abroad.The column of "Science and technology" is more popular in other two countries.At the same time,Some websites abroad even take different audiences as the first level columns,which fully reflects the characteristics of user segmentation.(3)From the view of the user interaction situation,popular science websites in different countries not only provide interactive platform through website,but also make full use of mobile terminals to provide social networking platforms and mobile application for audiences.But there are more social networking accounts and mobile applications in other two countries than China.Even there is one-to-many,that is,a website has multiple App.Based on the above findings,the following suggestions are put forward for the construction of popular science websites in China.First,unite the forces of all parties contribute to the construction of the websites to improve the quality of the website.Then,promote vigorously the mutual matching of network science resources and school science curricula,and enhance the openness of resources.Strengthen the subdivision of the audience of the website to realize the science popularization accurately.Strengthen the construction of the website from the content of the humanities and social sciences,so as to promote the integration of knowledge in different disciplines.Finally,strengthen the development and construction of social networking platform and mobile application so as to realize the accurate push service based on demand.
