The Generation And Restriction Mechanism Of Modern Chinese Surplus Negation

Redundant negation is a special linguistic phenomenon in modern Chinese,which have negative markers in form,but not express negative meaning.Based on the grammatical view of the three planes,this paper studies the formation and restriction mechanism of redundant negation,and tries to solve the following problems:1.Macroscopically,describing the distribution and diachronic evolution of redundant negation,and explaining the synchronic phenomenon of redundant negation.2.Microcosmically,we can get rid of the limitations of previous studies on the typical constructions of redundant negation(such as"?????......??????????").Integrating into different kinds of redundant negation phenomena in words,phrases and sentences,such as word category"???????????",phrase category"V/A'?'?P",sentence category"?+?/?/???"and so on.3.Based on corpus statistics and factual description,analyzing the grammatical features of redundant negation,and explaining the generative motivation and restrictive factors of redundant negation in depth.This dissertation is divided into three chapters,with additional introduction and conclusion.The introduction part mainly elaborates the research background and situation of redundant negation,clarifies the purpose of this study,introduces the theory and method of this study,and the source of corpus.Chapter one investigates the distribution of negative markers"?????"in redundant negation.It is found that"?????"lose its negative meaning and become a negative marker with only grammatical function,and classifies their respective grammatical functions.Through observation,it is found that some forms of redundant negation,such as"??????????"have solidified,which is the result of Lexicalization and grammaticalization.Some forms of redundant negation,such as"?????",have developed into independent discourse markers.Chapter two explains the formation mechanism of redundant negation.This paper holds that context,semantics,cognition and pragmatics constitute the basis for the formation of redundant negation.Different marked redundant negation has different contexts.Analyzing context can help us understand the special meaning of redundant negation.We find that the redundant negation marker " ? ? ? ? ? " has been grammaticalized in the diachronic evolution.It has different semantic characteristics from the general negation,which makes the redundant negation express affirmation semantically.Cognition is the internal basis.Subjectivity of cognition,bounded-unbounded characteristics and rational cognitive model explain thepsychological basis of redundant negation.Pragmatics is the external driving force.Pragmatic reasoning and habituation of pragmatic phenomena promote the generation and use of redundant negation,which is a dynamic process of pragmatic behavior.Chapter three discusses the restrictive conditions of redundant negation.This paper holds that semantic features and context are the most critical constraints,and some redundant negation forms are also constrained by syntactic conditions and sentence genres.The hearer needs to deduce the true meaning of redundant negation according to the specific context.
