Research On Strategies For Improving Simultaneous Translation Fluency In Cognitive Load Mode

In simultaneous interpreting,audience often finds it difficult to evaluate the quality of the interpretation due to their different knowledge levels and language abilities.As a result,fluency has been regarded as one of the key factors determining the quality of interpreting.This thesis takes Gill's "Effort Model" as a guide and analyzes the recording of English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting of the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2018.The main causes for low fluency are incorrect sentence segmentation,information intensiveness,logical confusion,jargon and the fast speed of source language.Under the guidance of "Effort Model" and based on the principle of balanced energy distribution,this thesis proposes the following five strategies,namely chunking,adding,omitting,enhancing self-monitoring and preparation.All of these strategies are to improve the fluency of the target language to help interpreters to better complete the task.
