More than 80% of marine waste comes from land, and plastic waste accounts for 80-95%.Among them, microplastics has become an international environmental problem as serious as the climate problem, which not only seriously threatens marine ecological security, food safety, but also has a negative impact on human health. There is a lack of awareness of this,so there is an urgent need to increase the level of emphasis on it and regulate it.By analyzing existing international conventions, regulations concerning the issue can be found, but the scope and effectiveness of the regulation are poor. Therefore, the perspective is turned to the development of international regulations, which are more effective against marine microplastics, but also face some shortcomings. At the same time,as an international environmental issue, the regulation of marine microplastics requires the international community to act together. In the end,a complete international legal system for the progressive development of marine microplastics shall be established.
