During the period of the Republic of China,the development of civic education flourished under the joint promotion of the official and academic communities.While civic education thoughts are widely disseminated,the practice of civic education is also "letting a hundred flowers blossom".However,the civic education during the Republic of China was not the product of the Western educational ideology.It is a profound reflection of the indigenous consciousness of traditional Chinese culture.Under the influence of Western citizenship,how can we pass on traditional Chinese culture,to what degree it will be inherited,and how to integrate this traditional resource into the new concept system of "civic education"?This series of questions is the core of the study.Primary and secondary schools are the main positions for the dissemination of civic education ideas.In the Republic of China,civic education experienced the development of self-cultivation subjects and civic subjects in primary and secondary schools.The civic syllabus,curriculum standards and textbooks for primary and secondary schools are the embodiment of civic education thoughts in this period.Through the analysis of historical materials such as textbooks and curriculum standards,it can be found that the civic education in the Republic of China has a strong native consciousness,which highlights the importance of the inheritance and development of traditional culture.Especially in the Scholastic Period,civic education covered the inherent morality of the Chinese nation,focusing on loyalty,filial piety,benevolence,love,faith,righteousness,and peace,and paid attention to the training of civic virtues,including the concept of etiquette and honesty and devotion.Although the Civic Section has improved the cultivation of the moral character of the Sculpting Section,it has not decreased.Primary schools still focus on moral education,while secondary schools have strengthened the study of theoretical knowledge of laws,state organizations,and political organizations,allowing students to view citizens' responsibilities and obligations from the perspective of the nation and cultivate students' sense of national identity.In addition,the civic education during the Republic of China demonstrated the characteristics of emphasizing private morality,neglecting public morality,valuing duties but neglecting rights,and focusing on collective.The study of civic education during the Republic of China provides theoretical and practical support for our current civic education.It not only allows us to understand how local culture and Western culture collide and merge,but also gives us the attitude that we should have when dealing with foreign cultures or trends of thought:Based on the local,hard-earned,have no supplements.
