Chameleon by Russian writer Chekhov is a classic satirical novel,which has been compiled into Chinese textbooks for junior middle schools in China since the 1960s.It has been a classic text of several Chinese textbooks for middle schools in China and has always been concerned and valued by literary researchers and educators.This novel is of great significance to the understanding of Chekhov's creative thoughts and art,satirical novels,and the changing Russian society.However,so far,the teaching content and value of Chameleon have not formed a systematic research system,and the development and utilization of its teaching value are still insufficient in practice.What and how the Chameleon should be taught is well worth studying.The author uses six sets of Chinese textbooks such as Shanghai education edition,Hebei university edition,Jiangsu education edition,Hubei education edition,People's education edition and ministry of education edition textbooks,and 15 teaching cases of Chameleon(including teaching designs and teaching activities)as the foundation,combined with the academic research on interpretation of Chameleon,as well as the first-line teachers' practical exploration of Chameleon,comprehensively analyze and study the teaching value of Chameleon.This study found that the academic circles',textbooks' and teachers' concerns about Chameleon have focused on characters,theme and artistic features,the character image has branch largely confined to the analysis of the protagonist Otrumilov,the novels of the representative figures from the other groups of equal attention is not enough,so that can't comprehensively and profoundly analyze the theme of the novel.In addition,each set of the research-selected textbooks seized the key points of the text,shoot the arrow at the target,however there are several sets of textbooks' clues before and after class comments show the inappropriate content,as well as the improper modification of punctuation.To make better use of Chameleon's teaching value,the unreasonable compilation of textbooks should be amended,editors should pay attention to the accuracy,validity,comprehensiveness and rationalization of compilation,in helping teachers and students' teaching and learning.Try our best to play up the positive guiding role of the value of text teaching.Through the analysis of the academic interpretation,textbook arrangement and teaching cases,the author argues that the teaching value of this novel is not only reflected in the understanding and mastery of the content,thought and artistic characteristics of the Chameleon,but also can be upgraded to the enlightenment of reading Chekhov's novels and satirical novels.Therefore,in the actual teaching,we should not only pay attention to the uniqueness of the Chameleon,but also need pay more attention to the analysis and extraction of the Chekhov's writing style and technique,as well as the analysis of its similarities and differences with satirical novels.
