The head teacher is the smallest director in the world,but he/she has to manage all aspects of a class,from daily chores to moral education.The new head teacher is in the on-boarding adaptation period and has just begun to adapt to school teaching.Under the dual identity and dual responsibilities of the teacher and the head teacher,he/she does not have enough energy to do what he/she hopes to do and will have many adaptation difficulties.This article takes the new head teacher of primary school as the research object.This article defines the concept of the new head teacher of primary school after reviewing the literature.According to the theory of adaptive performance,five dimensions of the adaptive performance of new head teachers in primary schools were identified.The adaptation of the work of new head teachers in primary schools was investigated from the aspects of problem solving,stress adaptation,interpersonal adaptation,continuous learning,and physical adaptation.The article comprehensively uses the literature method,questionnaire method and interview method.The article collects 88 valid questionnaires,and interviews 5 new elementary school head teachers,2 experienced head teachers,and 1 leader who is responsible for the work of the head teacher.The article summarizes the common adaptation problems of the new head teacher,the support for the new head teacher form the primary school,and finally puts forward countermeasures and suggestions to improve the work adaptability of the new head teacher in the primary school.Combining theoretical and empirical research,this article points out that the adaptation problems of new head teachers in primary schools mainly arise from students,class management,communication with parents,emotional regulation and so on.The detailed problems include that the new head teacher has difficulty establishing teacher prestige among students,and it is difficult to train and select outstanding class leaders.It is also difficult for the new head teacher to gain the trust of parents,to build a good class collective,and to handle student emergencies as quickly as possible.Although pre-service education,post-service education,and society have supported the work of the new head teacher,for example,normal education is helpful and colleagues and leaders are willing to provide help,but the support is limited and can not play a good role in promoting.Reasons to the adaptation problems of new head teachers in primary schools was further attributed,and eight aspects were summarized,such as insufficient conditional knowledge reserve of new head teachers,lack of class management skills,insufficient self-regulation ability,inadequate school training mechanism and so on.Through relevant theoretical and empirical research,this article proposes countermeasures from the new head teacher himself,the primary schools,colleges and universities and society,that is,the new head teacher should continuously learn the knowledge of the head teacher and actively face the work of the head teacher;the primary schools should reduce the pressure of the head teacher and improve his/her problem-solving ability;normal colleges and universities should adjust the curriculum structure of normal students and increase practical courses;society should improve the treatment of the head teacher,improve understanding for him/her and alleviate his/her pressure of interpersonal adaptation.
