Since the new century, the Yangtze River Economic Belt has become an important strategic fulcrum in China promoting the coordinated development of regional space. After the 18 th National Congress, the coordinated development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt has risen to the height of national strategy. The Yangtze River Economic Belt spans the three major regions of East,Central and West, and has typical characteristics such as “unbalanced regional development” and “difficult horizontal coordination”.Among them, the division barrier is an important factor that restricts the spatial shaping of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. How to effectively break the administrative barriers faced by coordinated development has become the key to promoting the efficient construction of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Therefore,it is of great significance to sort out the spatial evolution of the adjustment of the countylevel political district in the Yangtze River Economic Belt and to clarify the development characteristics and evolution mechanism of its regional reform. This article is divided into the following chapters:(1)The first part is an introduction. The purpose of this paper is to elaborate the background and research questions of this paper, and to sort out and summarize the relevant researches of urban agglomerations and county-level administrative regions to establish the research framework and research methods.(2)The second part is spatio-temporal analysis. It sorted out and summarized the historical evolution process of the adjustment of county-level administrative divisions in the Yangtze River Economic Belt since the founding of the People's Republic of China, and further analyzed the spatial characteristics based on the stage division.(3)The third part focuses on the urban agglomeration. The main agglomeration areas based on the adjustment of the Yangtze River Economic Zone were scaled and focused, and the characteristics of the spatial and temporal evolution of the county-level political districts of the three major urban agglomerations were summarized.(4)The fourth part focuses on revealing the inherent orientation mechanism.Firstly,it analyzed the human factors and geographical factors of the adjustment of county-level administrative divisions in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from a quantitative perspective.Secondly,it analyzed the current orientation of regional adjustment based on the “human-geography” factor.(5)The fifth part is closely related to the typical case analysis. The typical urban cases in different regions and different directions were selected, and the internal logic of their respective zoning practices was used to empirically analyze the impact of zoning adjustment.(6)The sixth part is the concise summary and follow-up outlook. The research results were briefly reviewed and summarized. On this basis, the basic research of this paper was prospected, and the possibility of follow-up research was put forward.
