Characteristic towns refer to "small towns with Chinese characteristics",which are led by the national development and reform commission, the ministry of finance and the ministry of housing and urban-rural development. As a new engine of social and economic development, characteristic towns have strong demonstration driving effect and development potential, and their construction promotes the organic combination of new-type urbanization and rural revitalization. At present, the development process of characteristic towns in China is relatively short, and there are differences in resource status, construction concept, industrial foundation, economic strength, development mode and spatial distribution, etc. In the cultivation process of characteristic towns, blind expansion and uneven process of construction appear. Therefore, related research results at home and abroad for reference, based on the theories of industrial economics, location theory, regional development theory and sustainable development theory, and taking the characteristic towns in Fujian Province as an example, using inductive deduction method and spatial mathematical model, this article divides the development model of characteristic towns, and explores the general situation, types, equilibrium, density and hierarchical differentiation of their spatial distribution. It provides some theoretical guidance for optimizing the spatial layout of characteristic towns. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)In the perspective of industry, through the "characteristic industry supplemented, extend industry",the principle of using inductive and comparative analysis, summarizes the characteristics of Fujian province town of four types of development modes:developmental model, agricultural resources, cultural tourism industry and innovative science and technology, and its subordinate 11 types of industry, and put forward specific development model based on the characteristics of different town development strategy;(2)By measuring the general situation, type, equilibrium, density and grade differentiation of the spatial distribution of characteristic towns in Fujian province through the econometric model,it can be seen that the overall spatial distribution of characteristic towns in Fujian province tends to be scattered, and the distribution density presents the feature of "decreasing from coastal to inland".The agglomeration degree ofthe four types of characteristic towns is obviously different, among which the agglomeration degree of agricultural resource type is the highest, mainly distributed in inland areas.Secondly, scientific and technological innovation, concentrated in coastal areas; The third is the industrial development type, mainly distributed in Quanzhou,Putian,Nanping city near the jurisdiction; And the degree of cultural tourism cluster is low.The spatial differentiation of development grade of characteristic towns in Fujian province is significant, and the development grade index gradually decreases from Quanzhou,Fuzhou,Ningde,Nanping,Llongyan,Putian,Zhangzhou,Xiamen and Sanming.(3)Using geographical contact rate,GIS spatial overlay analysis and other methods to analyze the influencing factors of the spatial distribution characteristics of Fujian province town showed that spatial distribution is mainly affected by number of non-material cultural heritage, demonstration pilot project of A level scenic area and the quantity, regional markets, traffic conditions, terrain factors, the density of population and economic factors. It forms the spatial distribution pattern of "alongside the city, alongside the scenic area" and "alongside the river, the sea,the lowland and the traffic".
