Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of creating a returning combat veterans curriculum is to increase the knowledge of social workers and other helping professionals regarding issues that veterans face. This curriculum focuses on the civilian care provided to combat veterans from conflicts Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom. A combat veteran is defined as a service member that has aided in either of the two conflicts, and returned home to their community.;Research and helping services for this unique group of veterans is in its early stages. Mental health and social issues that these members are facing are just beginning to be observed, as well as the negative impact these issues have on future society. Increased awareness regarding the needs of these veterans among social workers will provide foundations for improved care and success rates.
