Research On Environmental Design Of Children’s Picture Book Center Based On Environmental Psychology

With the national government proposing to further optimize policies on family planning in May 2021,it’s obvious to conclude that the population of children will increase significantly in the few decades to come.With the prosperous development of the social environment,parents and the society are paying more and more attention to early education of children’s reading ability.It’s believed by many that picture books suit children the best among all other types of books,and thus the business of children book centers have been developing really fast.Research by child educators shows that children’s physical and mental health is closely related to the environment they live in.Children’s picture book centers provide indoor activity space for children to do their reading and communicate with each other.The construction and environmental design of the domestic picture book centers are still in the beginner’s stage and need further exploration.Common problems including unreasonable division of functional spaces,messy color choices in indoor design,and lacking of necessary facilities lie everywhere,which shows that domestic picture book centers fail to value their environment to children fully.Based on the basic theories of environmental psychology,this paper analyzes the effects and influences of the environment on children’s psychology and behavior from perspectives of environmental psychology’s ecological perception and probability perception,taking both the physiological and psychological cognitive characteristics of children into consideration.This paper also concludes children’s demands and the key elements of picture book center design,and come to a set of strategies of how to create reading spaces suitable for different age groups,diverse communication spaces,and functional spaces for playing games,and strongly underlines the vital roles picture book centers play.
