| Under the guidance of Skopos Theory and its fidelity rule,this commentary demonstrates the rationality and feasibility of Skopos Theory in translating English novels.This commentary explores the translation methods adopted in this translation and difficulties encountered in the translation of the first two chapters of the Canadian writer Eis Edugyan’s Washington Black.The main difficulty that the translator encounters in the translation is word-selection,because some English words do not have equivalent words in Chinese.In order to solve the problems in translation,the translator uses various translation methods to achieve the purpose of translation.To be specific,this commentary divides the translation methods used into six categories,namely literal translation with annotation,division,conversion,free translation,amplification and omission.In order to make the translation faithful to the source text,the translator adopts translation methods like literal translation with annotation,division and conversion.In order to make the translation coherent,free translation,amplification and omission are adopted.In a word,Skopos Theory and its fidelity rule has offered an effective guidance for this translation practice.This translation commentary contains four chapters.The first chapter shows the background and significance of this translation practice,and gives a brief introduction to the author,the main contents of the original text.The second chapter of the commentary introduces Skopos Theory and its three rules.Chapter three categorizes the translation methods applied in the translation and illustrates them with examples.The last chapter talks about what the translator has learned from this translation practice.Through this translation practice,the translator hopes to accumulate translation experience and improve her own translation competence for future translation practice by analyzing the difficulties encountered in the translation process.The translator expects,after analyzing specific cases in this translation,to provide some valuable references for translators engaged in literary translation. |
