A Report On Escort Interpreting For An Energy-saving Building Materials Company

Since the outbreak of the energy crisis in the 1970s,the protection of resources and energy conservation have attracted the attention of developed countries.China’s green building started late and the Assessment Standard for Green Building has been formulated and implemented in 2019.In August,2020,the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development compiled and issued Several Opinions of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and Other Departments on Accelerating the Industrialization of New Buildings in which the application of green building materials and prefabricated concrete buildings is promoted.Besides our country increases support in finance,environmental protection policy,scientific and technological promotion and green energy-saving building has developed rapidly.Therefore,this escort interpreting practice carries great thematic and practical significance.From May 17th to 18th,2019,the interpreter offered an escort interpretation service for the site visit between Shandong Jiu’an Energy-saving Building Materials Co.,Ltd.and Australian Building Materials Company A.The main task of the escort interpreter was to help clients and foreign representatives conduct business exchanges and reach commercial agreements.This report mainly selects three communication parts factory interpreting,construction site interpreting and scenic spot interpreting to analyze under the guidance of the Interpretative Theory.The main challenges faced by the interpreter were as follows:(1)handling energy-saving building terms and numerous numbers;(2)interpreting complicated ESP sentences;(3)interpreting cultural communication in different background and spreading traditional Chinese culture.In this report,the interpreter followed the triangle model guided by the Interpretive Theory in three steps of comprehension,de-verbalization and reformulation to analyze the cases through interpreting strategies.In handling energy-saving building terms and numbers,the strategies of restructuring,free translation and amplification are adopted.As for ESP sentence interpretation,the interpreter used the principle of syntactic linearity to restructure and supplement the cognitive knowledge.It also needs the conversion of active and passive sentences.In cultural interpretation in different background,it is classified and interpreted with the strategies of transliteration and literal translation for interpretation without equivalent words;domestication and amplification are applied for idioms and poetry interpretation;omission is used for cultural conflict interpretation.The interpretation effectively conveyed the information of both parties and achieved the purpose of communication,which was affirmed by both parties,and the interpreter carried out self-reflection with client’s feedback.Through the analysis of this interpreting report,the author shares the interpretation strategies guided by the Interpretive Theory,which can inspire the interpretation learners to use the Interpretive Theory to guide the interpretation service preferably.
