| The folk arts play an important role in the long-standing culture of our country.With the development of globalization,it’s indispensable to inherit folk arts.Therefore,the author independently translated the third and fourth sections of the fifth chapter of Compendium of Folk Arts.Compendium of Folk Arts,written by Pan Lusheng,a famous Chinese expert in folk arts,has been the first theoretical monograph which takes folk arts as the independent research object in China so far.The third and fourth sections of this book introduce the folk arts of Chinese decorations and recreations,and specifically discuss the folk arts activities such as Papercutting,New Year paintings,Festive lanterns and Yangko dance,which are of great significance to spread Chinese folklore culture.Therefore,the summary of translation methods of folk arts and folklore texts will not only be beneficial to providing references for the translation of similar texts,but also spread Chinese national culture to the world.On the basis of text analysis and translation,some translation methods of culture-loaded characters and long sentences in the source text are discussed from three aspects: Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation.In terms of translation of culture-loaded characters,their cultural background should be found to achieve a correct understanding of the language,and they can be handled flexibly by adding relevant information and creating new phrases.Besides,the translation of culture-loaded characters is solved by means of abstraction,concreteness and omission.With regard to translation of long sentences,the linguistic logic and context should be analyzed to have a better understanding.In addition,these sentences can be translated by restructuring and addition.And then,the translation needs to be more in line with habit of English expressions by readjusting word order and flexibly changing sentence voice.Therefore,some translation methods can be provided for other translators engaged in relevant translation. |
