| Chinese-English Translation Project for China-Yichang English Web Site was established in 2003,translating news regarding Yichang?s local customs and events.During this translation practice,the author is confronted with three major challenges,namely,heavy tasks under rigorous schedule,high repetition of terms and proofreading problems.In order to tackle these problems,the author established translation memory and terminology using SDL Trados.As translation memory of SDL Trados has extraordinary retention regarding documents having been translated,both the original texts and their translation will match similar documents automatically.This will reduce the translation tasks the translators need to do and shorten time for translation.Besides,translators can collect terms of the past documents through terminology so as to spare their efforts used in searching terms.Moreover,as SDL Trados itself has the amazing proofreading function,it will help proofreaders and editors to check whether the punctuation is correct,whether there are errors and omission in the translation and whether the terms are consistent.This will remarkably enhance the translation efficiency and quality.This translation practice,which has given play to the value of SDL Trados to a considerable extent,will promote the translation progress of the whole project and provide reference and inspiration for news translation participants in our school as well as other.news translation lovers. |
