A Report On The Translation Of The Host City Contract For The 2020 Asian Beach Games

The English contract signed by the host and the host city lists the rights and obligations of both parties,restrictive terms and termination of the contract.This type of contract text is different from ordinary and literary English and other general styles.It has its unique language characteristics and style.At lexical level,archaic words,polysemy and proper nouns are frequently used,and at syntactical level,long and difficult sentences and passive sentences can be easily seen.A contract that can effectively convey the intention of cooperation between the two parties is very important.Accurate and standardized contract translation is conducive to both parties to obtain complete and effective contract details.This report is written based on the English to Chinese translation in the HOST CITY CONTRACT FOR THE 2020 ASIAN BEACH GAMES,which will analyze the difficulties during the translation process from the perspective of vocabulary and sentences,thereby concluding translation methods and skills such as amplification,omission,split translation and so on.There are five parts in this report: project introduction,theoretical framework,translation progress,case analysis,and conclusion.Among them,the project introduction mainly introduces the source of translation practice,text content and the linguistic characteristics;the theoretical framework mainly states the functional equivalence theory and its application;the translation process introduces the pretranslation preparations,the specific implementation of the translation project,and the post-translation review;The case analysis section mainly analyzes 24 examples in this translation practice lexical and syntactical level and proposes corresponding translation methods;the conclusion mainly summarizes the whole translation process and states the gains from the translation project.Generally speaking,contract translation can achieve the equivalence of form and content.If there is a conflict between the two aspects,the translator should first consider the equivalence of meaning,and at the same time try to consider the equivalence of form and style.The author strengthens the translation ability and broaden horizons through engaging in the project,but also realizes the weaknesses and room for improvement.Meanwhile,the author hopes to provide valuable reference for other translators.
