Translation Practice Report-A Case Study On E-C Translation Of Volvo S90 Owner’s Manual

In the era of global economic integration,the automobile industry has witnessed significant growth in both the number put on the market and the production and sales volume.Meanwhile,China has become one of the major automobile buyers in the world.As Sino-foreign joint automobile ventures have sprung up in the Chinese market,they have further pushed the advance of automobile import and export.In order to enable consumers to have a deep understanding of the performance of imported vehicles,and to help them quickly master the driving steps of purchased vehicles,it is necessary to translate these owner’s manuals into Chinese.Based on the E-C translation practice project of Volvo S90 Owner’s Manual,this translation report focuses on the part of Driver Support,analyzing the text features,elaborating the translation process and discussing how to guarantee the quality of translation under the guidance of semantic translation and communicative translation theories.This translation report consists of four parts.The first part is the introduction of this project,listing the research background,purpose and significance,and analyzing the text types.In the second part,the translation process is divided into pre-task preparation,process during translation and post-translation adjustment.The third part,guided by Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation theories,is the case study.In terms of vocabulary,the author focuses on the translation strategies of terminology,acronyms,modal verbs,personal pronouns and possessive pronouns.With regard to syntax,the author is committed to seek the translation method of conditional sentences,passive sentences,imperative sentences and long difficult sentences.As for discourse part,the author analyses the translation principles of pictures and parallel structures.The fourth part is the conclusion drawn to show the author’s reflection and harvest after the translation practice.
