A Report On The Simulate Consecutive Interpreting From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory

As the largest developing country,China has always been attracting the attention of the world,and the Chinese culture is also progressing on the path of “going global”.Therefore,it is urgent and necessary to introduce the brilliant Chinese culture to the world objectively and accurately.In order to better promote the Chinese culture on the international stage and acquaint foreign friends with family traditions of the Chinese nation,China Central Television has produced some documentaries to demonstrate the charm of China,among which Guarding the Family Traditions broadcast on CCTV 10 is a documentary that recounts the Chinese culture of family traditions.It mainly records the excellent culture of family traditions in China,such as the fine family traditions of “the First Family in the south of the Yangtze River”—the Zheng Family.Meanwhile,it also analyzes the ill family traditions of Cai Jing—a notorious government official in the Song Dynasty and others.Family traditions are the genes that extend in the blood of a family and even a nation.The documentary clarifies that the families which have inherited fine family traditions will pass on from generation to generation,while those with ill family traditions can always be doomed to bring destruction to themselves and eventually be defamed throughout history.This report is a simulate consecutive interpreting practice report written by the author under the guidance of Interpretive Theory and with the documentary Guarding the Family Traditions on CCTV 10 as the interpreting material,recording all the procedures related to the simulate consecutive interpreting practice,analyzing the difficulties encountered in the process of interpreting and the countermeasures the author has taken,and carrying out a detailed case analysis under the guidance of Interpretive Theory.The report winds up with the findings of the study and practice as well as the research results.They are: Firstly,adequate preparation before interpreting practice is of much necessity,and sufficient pre-interpreting preparation will greatly help the interpreter to improve the quality of the interpreting practice.Secondly,the quality of an interpreting practice can be influenced by many factors,such as the ability of memorizing,the ability of note-taking,cultural differences and so on.Thirdly,Interpretive Theory serves as good guidance in this simulate consecutive interpreting practice of CCTV documentaries related to the Chinese culture.Understanding the source language is the basis of interpreting,and only by correctly understanding the source language can the interpreter better express the meaning of it.Deverbalizing and re-expressing are the keys to interpreting.In interpreting practice,the interpreter should fully understand the source language firstly,then break away from the outer shell of the source language,and finally re-express into the target language.Interpretive Theory has a profound guiding significance on the interpreting practice related to traditional Chinese culture,which provides important guidance and help for such kind of interpreting practice.Through this practice,the author has not only learned more traditional Chinese culture of family traditions,improved her comprehension in and perception of interpreting practice and enhanced her interpreting competence and speaking ability,but also has made some contributions to the promotion of foreign friends’ recognition on the traditional Chinese culture of family traditions,deepened the international friends’ understanding on family traditions and helped traditional Chinese culture to better “go out of China” and thus“go global”.
