| Over the past 20 years,China‘s network literature has risen suddenly and prospered at an amazing speed.Network literature is not only an important part of Chinese literature,but also one of the most important cultural phenomena in the world.However,the translation of network novels in China is still in its infancy and there are a few examples that can be summarized and studied and practice reports on translating network novels are less.For that,this practice report is hoped to provide reference for the translation of network novels in the future,so as to better promote the development of network culture.Youth on Campus,a typical representative of network novels,was serialized in 2010.It mainly depicts campus culture and college students‘ vision for the future.The author Zhao Mingchi integrates modern language styles into campus life to cater to popularity.Chinese cultural-loaded words,dialects,professional terms and even some two-part allegorical sayings are used,and all these make the whole novel full of the atmosphere of the times and the unique charm of language.The translator was entrusted by Luvee Translation Services Co.Ltd.to translate the web novel titled Youth on Campus.The translation is under the guidance of Peter Newmark‘s theory—Typology and follows the principle of ―original author first‖ with the semantic translation as the main translation and the communicative translation as the supplementary translation,which makes the translation faithful to both the ideological content of the author‘s expression and the original author‘s language style.After translation,the translator wrote the practice report based on Chapter 1 to chapter 5 of the target text.Starting with the background and importance of the translation task,the author of this report analyzes the lexical,syntactic and textual features of the source text and describes in detail the translation process of the task:collecting background information,selecting a translation theory and methods and making a translation plan before translation;ensuring the accuracy of terms and controlling the quality of the target text during translation;self-evaluation,peer evaluation and evaluation from the entrusting party after translation.Then,according to the features of the source text,the author selects some typical cases in lexical,syntactic and textual levels for analysis,and makes a summary and reflection on the gains and shortcomings of the translation practice,with a view to deepening the study of translation theory and improving the translation practice ability in the future. |
