In Thailand,Chinese language courses have been incorporated into the national education system,covering all stages of preschool education,basic education and higher education,showing that Chinese language education in Thailand is booming.However,during the internship in Thailand,the author found that the overall quality of Chinese teaching in Thailand was too poor to meet the social demand for Chinese language talents.It is important for improving the teaching quality to formulate teaching contents based on this and to adopt targeted teaching methods through investigating and analyzing the needs of Chinese learners,and understanding the teaching objects.Based on the demand analysis theory,this paper consults the Dudley-Evans&St John demand analysis model and the author’s Chinese teaching experience in Thailand to design a questionnaire,and conducts a survey and analysis on the Chinese language demand of Confucius classroom learners in Bangkok in four aspects: the purpose of learning,the content of learning,the way of learning and the learning environment.By comparing junior and senior high school students,we can further understand the real needs of Confucius classroom learners,and provide some reference for the future Chinese language teaching in Bangkok Confucius classroom.Through the survey of learner needs,it is found that middle school students and high school students have certain differences in learning purpose,learning content,learning style and learning environment.Compared with senior high school students,junior high school students pay more attention to interestingness of classroom,prefer to the teaching modes that enrich classroom activities and teaching materials that are more interesting,while senior high school students pay more attention to practicality,and have more demands for teaching modes that focus on student practice and relevant exam tutoring materials.Through teachers interviews,we have a more comprehensive understanding of students’ needs.Meanwhile,we also found that teachers unknown about students’ learning style needs and there is a disconnection between teaching and learning.According to the present needs of students and the current situation of Confucius classroom teaching,the comparative analysis shows that the needs of students in teaching mode,class size and teaching materials are not fully met.Finally,based on the above problems,this paper proposes targeted measures for the future running of Confucius classrooms from the three perspectives of students,teachers and Confucius classrooms,so as to contribute to the future running of Confucius classrooms in Thailand and the teaching of Chinese language at the stage of basic education in Thailand.
