This paper attempts to investigate the semantic transparency of 635 disyllabic compound adjectives in HSK Vocabulary(2012 Revision)based on the theory of semantic transparency.It is mainly divided into four parts,including the factors of semantic transparency,the classification of semantic transparency types,the comparison between semantic transparency and difficulty of the words,and the corresponding teaching suggestions.First of all,the factors that affect semantic transparency can be divided into two aspects: morpheme factor and lexical meaning factor.What’s more,morpheme factors include morpheme semantic degree,morpheme frequency and morpheme polysemy.And the lexical meaning factors include the number of semantic items and the relationship between different semantic items.Secondly,we set different numbers according to the different influence of each factor on semantic transparency and the numbers of all factors are combined to evaluate the semantic transparency.So the types of semantic transparency can be divided into completely opaque words,comparatively opaque words,comparatively transparent words and completely transparent words.Then in terms of quantity,completely opaque words are the least one.Relatively opaque words are less than completely transparent words.Relatively transparent words are the most in all of them.On the whole,opaque words are less than transparent words.Thirdly,semantic transparency is not equal to the difficulty of teaching.After we compare semantic transparency with the difficulty of words,we found that there are opaque words in low level including all words are opaque words in level one while it accounts for half of them in level two and so on.Finally,some corresponding teaching suggestions are proposed according to the semantic transparency of the disyllabic compound adjectives and the results of comparison with the difficulty of words,such as emphasizing the relevance between morphemes and words and valuing the source of the words’ meaning,etc..
