The research objects of this translation practice report are selected from the book Des (?)les, des hommes, des langues about Creolized language and culture written by French linguist Robert Shaudenson. As the original version of this work is in French,it isn’t easy to be quoted by scholars outside France and its former colonies.Salikoko S.Mufwene,a professor at the University of Chicago, translated it into English, improved it,and published it in an accessible way.The name of the English version is Creolization of Language and Culture.Nowadays, more and more scholars believe that Pidgin and Creole’s development provides a model for the study of language evolution, and there are still many opportunities for growth in the study of Pidgin and Creole. This translation practice report’s research objects are selected from the first two parts of the fifth chapter,Linguistic creolization in the book Creolization of Language and Culture. The book is highly academic and belongs to informative text. Therefore, the translator combined Reiss’ s view on the translation of informative text in the Text Type Theory to make a case analysis.Reiss believes that the core of the informative text is the accuracy of information transmission. The translation criteria of informative texts are clear logic, accurate wording, standardized terminology, and rigorous structure. In this translation practice report, the translator selects the most typical examples from three levels: vocabulary, syntax, and text for case analysis, and summarizes the applicable translation methods when translating informative texts.Specifically,at the lexical level, for linguistic terminology and some proper nouns, parallel text and annotation methods are adopted to ensure the standardization and accuracy of terminology; At the syntactic level, the methods of amplification and division are used to make the sentences of the translation smooth and avoid ambiguity; At the textual level, the methods of repetition and readjustment of word order are adopted to ensure that the translation is structured and logically clear. This translation practice report discusses the guiding significance of Reiss’ s Text Type Theory in translating informative texts, aiming at providing some reference value for translating such texts.
