The Influence Of Government Performance Evaluation And Social Cognition On Corruption Perception

As we all know,corruption has great harm,it will reduce the efficiency of the administrative organs,damage social fairness and justice,erode the interests of the state and the people,hinder the development of economic society,and destroy social harmony and stability.Corruption Perception,as the core variable in the subjective evaluation of corruption,reflects the public’s subjective evaluation of the severity of corruption and the effectiveness of anti-corruption.Therefore,it is of positive significance to study the influencing factors of public perception of corruption to reduce the level of Corruption Perception and promote the effective development of anti-corruption work.This paper is based on the Chinese social survey 2008,2011,2013,2015,2017 and 2019,which compares and analyzes the change trend of public perception of corruption.Starting from the government dimension and social dimension,this paper takes the public’s government performance evaluation and social cognition as the breakthrough point to study the influence of both on the perception of corruption,and discusses the mediating role of social cognition in the process of government performance evaluation influencing Corruption Perception.At the same time,this paper also analyzes the influence of control variables such as personal attributes,political participation,subjective socio-economic status on Corruption Perception.This paper mainly uses quantitative analysis(comparative analysis,correlation analysis)and empirical research method of constructing the generalized ordered logistic regression model(gologit)to analyze the relevant data.The results show that:First,the better the public evaluation of government performance,the lower the public perception of corruption.Second,social cognition has a negative influence on Corruption Perception:on the whole,social justice has a negative influence on Corruption Perception.The stronger the public’s sense of social justice is,the lower their perception of corruption is.However,there is no significant difference between the public who think the society is relatively unfair and the public who think the society is totally unfair in the perception of "probity","relative probity"and "relative corruption",there is no significant difference in the perception of"corruption" between the public who think society is completely fair and the public who think society is relatively fair.On the whole,social trust has a significant negative influence on Corruption Perception.However,when the social trust is above medium level,the higher the public’s social trust is,the lower their corruption perception level is;when the social trust is below medium level,there is no significant difference between the public who think the social trust is medium level and the public who think the social trust is sub-medium level.In the process of the influence of public government performance evaluation on Corruption Perception,public social cognition(social justice,social trust)plays a partial mediating role in the same direction as government performance evaluation.That is to say,the public with higher government performance evaluation has more positive social cognition and thinks that the degree of government corruption is lower.To sum up,the public’s government performance evaluation and social cognition have a significant influence on the perception of corruption.Therefore,the state should take effective measures such as establishing and improving relevant systems and regulations,strengthening supervision,improving the work style of the party and government departments,improving the government’s job satisfaction,effectively maintaining social fairness,strengthening social trust,effectively reducing the public’s perception of corruption,and promoting social harmony and stability.
