Compilation And Application Of University Employability Index

In order to cope with economic development and employment problems,the number of college enrollment has increased significantly since 1999,and higher education has shifted from "elite education" to "mass education".One consequence of the massive expansion has been a surge in college graduates,making it increasingly difficult to find jobs and making the job market for graduates extremely difficult.Governments at all levels,universities and the general public all pay attention to this issue.The research on the employment of college graduates is in the ascendant.According to the literature review,it can be seen that the current research on the employment of college graduates is either from the perspective of graduates to study the factors affecting employment,employment quality and other issues;either from the perspective of the school to investigate the employment rate of graduates,but rarely analysis for the school’s overall employment situation.In view of this,this paper puts forward a comprehensive evaluation of college employment index-university employability,and the university employability index,used to measure the overall situation of college graduates employment.Specifically,the research is carried out from the following four aspects:First,this paper defines the university employability to reflect the comprehensive employment strength of a university in different years.It is no longer limited to the individual dimensions of graduates,taking into account indicators such as employment rate,but a comprehensive consideration of graduates’ employment,school conditions and the social and economic development of the year and other multidimensional factors,to dynamically reflect the comprehensive employment strength of colleges and universities.Second,the influencing factors of college employability is screened.This paper holds that the factors influencing university employability include social factors,school factors and graduates’ individual factors,and the three dimension interact each other to determine the university employability.Therefore,27 factors influencing the university employability were first selected,and then 12 of them were eliminated through Lasso regression analysis and gray correlation analysis,and finally 15 main indicators were screened out.The GDPgrowth rate,the registered urban unemployment rate and the proportion of the tertiary industry of socio-economic factors;The gender ratio(proportion of male students),overall employment satisfaction and employment type(proportion of labor contract+agreement employment,proportion of college admission,proportion of studying and working abroad)of graduates’ individual factors;the school type(comprehensive),the number of state key disciplines,the number of state key laboratories,the availability of first-class doctoral programs,the number of academicians,the number of double-appointed academicians and the overall employment rate of the school of school factors.Third,the construction of the university employability index.By using the above 15 selected indicators which affect the university employability,an university employability index that can comprehensively reflect the employability of colleges and universities is weighted by principal component analysis method.Fourth,the application and promotion strategies of college employability index.After compiling the university employability index,we apply the employability index to 43 selected colleges in shandong province.On the one hand,it is applied to the vertical comparative analysis of the same school in different years;on the other hand,it is applied to the horizontal comparative analysis of different schools in the same year.Through the vertical comparative analysis,it was found that the university employability index showed a trend of gradual increase from 2014 to 2018,although there were slight fluctuations.In addition,the cumulative value of the university employability index also showed an obvious upward trend from 2014 to 2018,indicating that the employability of colleges in shandong province was increasing,the overall university employability was getting better.Through the horizontal analysis,this paper summarized which of the 43 selected colleges in shandong province ranked higher,more stable,fluctuated and increased(decreased)in2014-2018.Finally,some suggestions are put forward to improve the university employability from three perspectives: government,universities and graduates.
