A Study On Parenting Dilemmas And Countermeasures For Families With Two Children From The Perspective Of Social Support

With the changes in China’s family planning policy,the expansion of the size of two-child families,the urgent need to improve the related welfare system supporting the two-child policy,the arrival of the second child has increased the cost of family parenting,education,housing,medical costs and other new issues,changes in family structure,family status,living conditions and so on are bound to form a greater impact and challenges for two-child families.How to solve the dilemma of parenting time,financial pressure,lack of parenting skills,physical and mental stress and social development constraints faced by families with two children has become an inescapable and urgent problem.The study group of this paper is two-child families in the demolition and resettlement type W community in Chongqing.Using 12 families with two children in W community as a case study,the survey data were collected through questionnaire survey method,participant observation method and in-depth interview method,and the findings were analyzed using the case study method.The survey found that families with two children in W communities generally have increased demands on grandparents with the arrival of their second child,increased time spent on raising their second child,increased financial burden of raising two children,lack of methods to educate two children,and high physical and energy consumption in caring for two children;the support for families with two children is mainly internal support system,and the external social support system of the family is weak;families with two children expect more internal family support,social level Families with two children are faced with the problems of parenting time,financial pressure,lack of parenting skills,physical and mental stress and limited social development.Using social support theory as an entry point,we analyze the causes of the parenting dilemmas of second-child families in the W community,which are closely related to their lack of a comprehensive and diversified social support system.governmental and community levels are discussed,with the governmental level including the lack of protection of supporting policies for two children and inadequate support from the public service system for two children,and the community level including the lack of community support and the lack of playgrounds for children in the community.Finally,from the perspective of addressing the parenting needs of families and promoting the healthy growth of children,a formal social support system led by the government,facilitated by the community and supported by social organizations,and an informal social support system supported by families and collaborated by neighbors are explored for families with two children to reduce the parenting pressure of families with two children,promote the harmonious development of families,communities and society,and facilitate the smooth implementation of the comprehensive two-child policy.
