| In recent years, the state has issued a series of policies and measures to offer secondary vocational students more opportunities of employment and further education to support the development of secondary vocational education. But so far,the teaching quality of secondary vocational colleges has been unsatisfactory mainly due to the teaching modes unsuitable for the characteristics of combination of the course’s theory and practice, hence the problems of students’ low interests in learning, being unskilled of knowledge and lack of vocational capacity. The teaching mode of integration of theory and practice is a teaching mode focusing on the combination of the theory study and practical operation, which can overcome the advantages of traditional teaching. As a required course of tourism service and management major in secondary vocational schools,Catering Service and Management emphasizes the combination of theory and practice and focuses on developing the students’ practical ability of catering service. However,in the real teaching practice, the teaching goals tend not to be truly achieved.Based on this, this paper introduces the teaching mode of integration of theory and practice into the course teaching to improve the course’s teaching quality. This paper employs a serial of methods including literature review, interviews, questionnaire survey,quasi-experimental research, and so forth.First of all,on the basis of literature review, this paper designs questionnaire survey and interview outline to understand the teaching status of the course Catering Service and Management in secondary vocational schools, and summarizes the following problems: lack of interests in learning and low self-efficacy in students;lack of extension of teaching objectives and validity of teaching methods;with formalization and lack of depth in teaching evaluation;weakness in practical teaching to affect the grasp of skills;lagging behind in hardware and software conditions in secondary vocational schools.Secondly,From the five elements of theoretical basis, teaching objectives, teaching procedures, teaching evaluation and realization conditions,a teaching mode of integrating theory and practice suitable for the course of Catering Service and Management is constructed. Finally,it chooses appropriate teaching contents of the course to carry out quasi-experimental research by setting experimental class and controlled class. After the experiment, with several ways such as interviews with teachers and students, examination results analysis, questionnaire survey and so forth to analyze the differences between the experimental class and the controlled class,it finally draws the following conclusions: the theoretical and practical scores of the students in the controlled class are obviously lower than the experimental class with significant difference;the students in the experimental class can adapt to and are willing to continue to apply the teaching mode of integration of theory and practice;the students in the experimental class have higher learning enthusiasm and showed more active learning behaviors. There are following conclusions from the research, the teaching mode of integration of theory and practice can resolve the existing problems in the course teaching in Catering Service and Management in secondary vocational schools to a certain extent. And it can also improve students’ self-efficacy and enthusiasm, promote the combination of theory and practice to realize the teaching goals, facilitate the common development between teachers and students by learning and teaching, and help to achieve the due value of the course.Meanwhile, there are some teaching suggestions for better using the teaching mode of integration of theory and practice: integrating and refining the course teaching contents, building a “double-qualified” teaching team, establishing a classroom integrating of theory and practice, and strengthening the classroom management. |
