Objectives: Internet dependence has gradually become a common problem among middle school students as a trigger for such symptoms as compulsion,depression and restlessness.Not only will their own learning,life be affected but also moral awareness would be weakened,even to the extent to the path of crime.It has been testified by empirical studies that cognitive behavioral therapy could act as an effective approach for Internet dependence intervention.The study is intended to explore new methods of Internet dependence intervention from the scope of case study and active psychotherapy and to form a comparison with cognitive behavioral therapy.Methods: First,questionnaires of Internet Addiction Test(IAT)formulated by Kimberly Yang were distributed in Wuhan X Middle School,a total of 86 questionnaires were recovered.In accordance with the information provided by the head teachers and voluntary principle of psychological counseling,two participants with similar scores,Y and G have been selected for,respectively,eight cognitive behavioral therapies and positive psychological therapies.In the end,effectiveness of therapies is evaluated by comparing with pre-intervention scores and feedback from parents.Tools adopted include: Young Internet Addiction Self-Test(IAT),Teen Pathological Internet Usage Scale,and Self-Report Symptom Checklist(90,SCL-90).Results:(1)Y’s Teen Pathological Internet Usage Scale from 129 to 82.Y has shown significant improvement in withdrawal symptoms,mood change,social comfort and negative consequences with a significant decrease in both comfort and negative consequences of all four sub-scores,and SCL-90 score from 211 to 179.(2)G’s Teen Pathological Internet Usage Scale from 139 to81 points,where there is significant change in withdrawal symptoms and mood change.G’s SCL-90 score reduced from 189 to 176,and depression score decreased the most.(3)according to feedback from their head teachers and parents,Y and G have spent much less time on Internet and shown more interest in school and more self-confidence.Conclusions:(1)Positive psychological intervention can effectively reduce the symptoms of Internet dependence for middle school students and enhance their self-confidence so that they could better integrate into real life;(2)Active psychological counseling shows equivalent effect on Internet dependence of middle school students as cognitive behavioral therapy,and therefore it can be adopted as a new method of Internet dependence intervention.
