Overparenting refers to parents’ excessive participation in their children’s life, actively removing obstacles on their growth path and paying high attention to their children’s academic achievements in order to better protect their children and ensure their children’s achievements in the process of their children’s growth, thus ignoring the cultivation of their children’s independence.Overparenting has attracted more and more attention at home and abroad year by year.Previous studies have shown that overparenting is closely related to children’s development and has varying degrees of impact on children’s self-confidence and psychological resilience.Junior high school students are in early adolescence, eager for freedom and independence, but also rely on their parents.Under the cultural background of "Men ’ s work centers around outside, women’s work centers around the home",junior high school students have more contact with their mother than their father. What do children at this stage think of their mother’s overparenting behavior? Is the influence of mother’s overparenting on junior high school students’ self-confidence and psychological resilience negative or positive? Can the level of self-confidence of junior high school students be promoted by the group counselling? Therefore, this paper has carried out the following research:In Study 1,a questionnaire survey was used to investigate the relationship between maternal overparenting,self-confidence and psychological resilience of 570 junior high school students. The results showed that:1.There is a significant positive correlation among maternal overparenting,self-confidence and psychological resilience.2.Self-confidence plays a partial mediating role between maternal overparenting and psychological resilience. In Study 2,positive psychology group counseling was used to intervene the self-confidence of junior high school students.40 students with no significant difference between self-confidence and psychological resilience were divided into experimental group and control group. The experimental group was given group counseling for a total of 8 times for two months, and the control group did not do any intervention. The results show that:1.After group counseling, the level of self-confidence and psychological resilience of the experimental group were significantly improved.2.The level of self-confidence and psychological resilience in the control group had no significant change without intervention. In Study 3,six junior high school students were interviewed about their mother’s overparenting behavior by using the method of qualitative research. The interview involved junior high school students’ feedback on their mother’s overparenting behavior and how they evaluated their mother’s overparenting behavior. The results found that most subjects thought that their mother’s overparenting behavior was helpful and could accept their mother’s overparenting behavior.
