Inducted into the United States Basketball Hall of Fame,honored as one of China’s Top 100 Contributors to Reform and Opening,won the National May 1st Labor Award,took charge of the Chinese Basketball Association,was elected Chairman of the Central Asian Basketball Federation,and has outstanding global influence.Yao Ming,his brilliant His career is full of legend.Why Yao Ming can highlight the siege and successfully climb to the top from the bottom of the pyramid that restricts many professional athletes? What are the intrinsic factors and driving forces that affect Yao Ming’s career development?Based on this,this article takes the life course as the main line,takes the construction grounding theory as the guidance,and takes Yao Ming as a case to explore the career changes of elite professional athletes and its influencing factors from the bottom up.The main research contents are as follows:First,based on the perspective of life history,Yao Ming’s career change is divided into three periods: professional preparation,professional athletes,and professional managers.It is the main thread that runs through all stages of life trajectory.The change of his career is affected by the individual’s social network,The timing of the event,the subjective initiative of the individual,and the impact of the comprehensive thrust of the four development opportunities.Secondly,combined with the perspective of constructing grounded theory,it is found that social capital,human capital,and psychological capital are the main influencing factors to promote Yao Ming’s career development.As a productive element and concrete accumulation of comprehensive driving force for Yao Ming’s career change,social capital includes four dimensions: "social relationship network","social identity and status","social participation",and "social cognition";psychological capital includes "Self-cognition","Self-efficacy","Hope","Positive optimism","Psychological technology","Psychological resilience","Grateful dedication";Human capital includes "professional ability","body",There are 17 elements in six dimensions of "career task","career experience","career achievement",and "working time".In each stage of the life track,social network,hard work,sense of honor,responsibility,and learning ability,Humor,height,expectations,self-cognition and other factors are important factors in Yao Ming’s career change and continuity.Thirdly,combined with the discovery of life course theory and construction grounding theory,a process theoretical model of Yao Ming’s career development and change was constructed.The theoretical model specifically includes: the process of capital accumulation and interaction,three levels of individual-group-organization,three stages of professional preparation-professional athletes-professional managers,three major influencing factors and 17 factors.That is,with the development of Yao Ming’s life trajectory,the capital interaction process occurs at the three levels of individual-group-organization.The degree of accumulated capital determines the transformation and continuation of Yao Ming’s life trajectory.Finally,the enlightenment of research to the cultivation and management of professional athletes in China is proposed.It mainly includes: attaching importance to the particularity of the process of athletes ’career development;focusing on the accumulation of capital elements of athletes to resist the risk of career development;and improving the athletes’ retirement employment security service system.
