| With the social-economic growth and the increase of national per capita disposable income,the era of mass tourism has given birth to a huge tourism market,and as a result,the demand for a larger group of and higher quality of employees in travel agents have increased,so that new topics and requirements for tourism major education in secondary vocational schools have introduced.The secondary vocational schools in China,with a certain career development orientation,treat their major learning activities and vocational education system as two very important bases,and those schools have already had basic skills to train future employees in the tourism industry,but the school still seems to have some deficiency in cultivating students’ major-identity.However,the level of the major-identity of students will directly affect the learning interests and learning outcomes of some students and affect their willingness to choose a career in the future.In this context,the cultivation of those students’ major-identity is undoubtedly an urgent issue for secondary vocational schools.Only when students identify and like their major can they be more proactive in learning-related knowledge and be more willing to take their major as their career in the future,and therefore be more possible to become qualified employees and to meet the qualification of the talents in industry tourism of our country.Therefore,this paper will focus on the study of the status of major identification of students majoring in tourism in secondary vocational schools,analyzes the comprehensive situation,which contains different factors influencing their major identification,by collecting information through published researches related to the topic on the one hand and investigated with questionnaires and individual reviews on students who major in tourism in secondary vocational schools in Chongqing,China on the other.On that basis,this paper would introduce conductive methods to the education for tourism-majored students in secondary vocational schools and give some reference to improve the teaching skills of schools which plays an important role in the development of the tourism industry.The first part of the questionnaire is the basic information collection of tourism major students,including their gender,grade,source of origin,the reason for choosing the major,financial situation of their family,a basic understanding of and their willingness to choose theMajor before enrollment,semester results,and whether they were serving as a school student cadre.The second part is composed of six dimensions which contain 29 items in total,including students’ major cognition,recognition,willingness,learning skills,major ideology,and career expectations.After collecting the information of the research objects in this study by questionnaires,the paper compare and analyze the differentiation of the sample data with the APP spss23.0;additionally,with the help of individual interviews,in-depth exploration and analysis of the factors affecting the major identity of tourism students are obtained.The research comes out with a conclusion: The major-identity of tourism majors in Chongqing secondary vocational colleges is at a good level generally;and there is no big difference in the major recognition among students coming from different family financial backgrounds,while there are differences among students who had had different grades,been from different family locations,played different roles in the school,and reached different academic achievements.After analyzing the results of the questionnaires and individual reviews,the writer of this paper infer that the main reasons for the current identity level of tourism majors in secondary.Vocational schools can be explained from three aspects: students themselves,the school,and social background.The students’ factors mainly are the disorders in their reasons for choosing the major,their personality,and their major cognition;the factors of schools mainly include that the schools’ lack of attention to the cultivation of students’ major recognition,their deficiency of systematic cultivation of students’ comprehensive and professional ability,the necessary conditions for practical teaching,and insufficiency of the training of teachers’ practice ability and teaching quality,and lack of the up-to-date training of teachers’ practice ability and teaching quality;factors of social backgrounds mainly include that the indistinctness of social image of the tourism major of the vocational school,the inadequate cooperation between the school and the tourism industry.Based on the analysis of the influencial factors of the major-identity of tourism-majored students in Chongqing,this research puts forward practical methods to improve the major-identity.For students aspects,they should focus on srengthenin their major awareness,clarifying their knowledges,planing for their future career,and improvement their practical ability to bridge the gap between ideology and practice.The school should attempt to stimulate students’ motivation to learn;improve their major recognition;help them to refine their career planning;improve school teachers’ teaching skills and quality;and build an off-campus cooperation platform for them.For society,it is necessary to enhance the social image of the tourism major of vocational schools;provide the policy bases for schools to improve the teaching quality and education levels. |
