A Case Work Intervention On Parenting Stress Among Caregivers Of Children With Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy,or cerebral palsy for short,is a disease that occurs mostly in young children at birth.In recent years,the number of children with cerebral palsy has been increasing.Because cerebral palsy is a continuous and long-term disease,it causes psychological,physical and financial stress to caregivers of children with cerebral palsy,and places a serious burden on the families of the patients.During the long-term care of children with cerebral palsy,the high parental stress of caregivers may lead to anxiety,depression,and social tension,which inevitably causes a negative life state of the caregiver,which will have a certain impact on the rehabilitation of the child with cerebral palsy.Therefore,the physical and mental health of caregivers,as the most important supporters of patients with cerebral palsy,is crucial to the treatment of patients.In this paper,a case study of the parenting stress of caregivers of children with cerebral palsy in Beijing’s T-Institutional Children’s Welfare Program in District M is used as an example of casework intervention.In professional practice,the case of a child with cerebral palsy was approached through a local child welfare program,and the focus of attention was on the caregiver.The case work approach was mainly used to intervene,and an ecosystemic theory perspective was adopted in the analysis of the needs of the case,and the caregiver’s parental stress was analyzed in three aspects:micro,meso,and macro,to explore the parental stress situation of the caregiver of a child with cerebral palsy.In the process of practice,we combine the theory of strengths with the theory of strengths,using the caregiver’s own strengths to bring help to more people;using the power of social support and networks to enable the caregiver to gain a new social circle through the linkage of resources and enhance the ability to adapt to society;exploring the caregiver’s potential ability to enhance the caregiver’s own ability to face difficulties and solve problems on their own,and formulating an exclusive program for the caregiver of a child with cerebral palsy to relieve parental stress.Overall,the intervention of the casework approach resulted in a significant reduction in parenting stress values,and the service plan developed to relieve parenting stress was effective,resulting in positive changes in all aspects of the clients.Based on the application of the casework approach and the analysis of theoretical perspectives,we analyzed the parenting stress of caregivers of children with cerebral palsy from a new perspective,hoping to contribute to social work practice in the field of parenting stress of caregivers of children with cerebral palsy through a unique case study,and to provide a model reference for social work interventions with caregivers of children with cerebral palsy.
