A Case Work Intervention Study On Stress Relief For Caregivers Of Patients With Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy,as a long-term and complex disabling disease,not only seriously affects the patients' survival and quality of life,but also causes heavy psychological,nursing and economic burdens on the patients' caregivers.The long-term psychological,economic,and nursing pressures of the caregivers can make them anxious,irritable,and even depressed on the one hand,and have a negative impact on patients' recovery on the other hand.Therefore,it should not be overlooked to pay attention to the caregivers of patients with cerebral palsy and alleviate the multiple pressures on them.However,at present,the focus of policies related to cerebral palsy and research on cerebral palsy by scholars at home and abroad are on the patients themselves,and very little attention is given to the role of caregivers.As the most important supporters of patients with cerebral palsy,caregivers whose nursing ability and emotional state are crucial to the patients' rehabilitation and normal life.Therefore,it is urgent to find an effective way to relieve the pressure of caregivers of patients with cerebral palsy.This paper,from the perspective of social work,uses the theory of social support and ABC theory,and adopts the method of case work to intervene in the stress relief of Su,who is a caregiver of a patient with cerebral palsy.Through an in-depth interview with Su,the author learned about Su's current stress situation which is mainly reflected in the three aspects of psychology,economy and nurse,and then the author analyses the causes of stress including bad emotions and negative behaviors caused by irrational beliefs and lack of support due to strained family relationships and poor social conditions.Then,based on the understanding of the needs of Su,practical case service plans and goals are made.From the perspective of the whole case service process,the client Su has made positive changes in cognition and behavior.The situation of resource support and problem-solving capability have been improved,and multiple pressures have been effectively alleviated.At the end of the paper,the unique advantages of case work in the interventionof caregivers of patients with cerebral palsy in stress relief are briefly summarized.Based on the findings of the study,several suggestions for coping with problems related to cerebral palsy are put forward,which can be summarized in the four levels of improving the welfare policy regarding respite care,integrating social work methods to provide comprehensive professional services for caregivers of patients with cerebral palsy,paying attention to the multiple pressures of caregivers of patients with cerebral palsy and focusing on the establishment of social support networks,and social work profession paying attention to establishing links with other professions such as medicine,subdividing the field of social work and developing specialized talents.It is hoped that this case study will draw more people's attention to the group of caregivers of patients with cerebral palsy and provide a case intervention model in helping caregivers of patients with cerebral palsy for social work practitioners for reference at the same time.
