After entering university,college freshmen arrive at a brand new environment and need to study and live with people from different families,social backgrounds,living habits and growing environments,which undoubtedly puts demands on the interpersonal adaptability of college freshmen.The university stage is a special critical period for individual development,and the degree of adaptation of university freshmen to university life will affect their study,life and friendships during the university period,so the study of improving the interpersonal adaptation of university freshmen is not only a practical requirement,but also a need to realize the development of university freshmen themselves.In this study,we collected and analyzed data through questionnaires,semi-structured interviews,and participant observation to understand the overall situation and differences in interpersonal adjustment of freshmen at L.We conducted eight group activities and adopted a social work professional intervention of integrating sandplay therapy in the group work to improve the interpersonal adjustment of freshmen at university.The results of the study revealed that: firstly,the overall mean interpersonal adjustment score of L freshmen was 3.63,which was higher than the theoretical median score of 3 and was in the middle to upper level,and the overall interpersonal interaction level of L freshmen was higher than the interpersonal cognition level,but 8% of the interpersonal adjustment scores of L freshmen were lower than the theoretical median score of 3,and their interpersonal adjustment level needed to be improved.Secondly,there is a difference in the interpersonal adjustment of college freshmen by household registration,and the interpersonal adjustment level of college freshmen with urban household registration is significantly higher than that of college freshmen with rural household registration;there is no significant difference in the interpersonal adjustment level of college freshmen whose majors belong to humanities and social sciences and those who belong to science and technology;there is no significant difference in the interpersonal adjustment level of male and female college freshmen.Third,it is necessary and feasible to improve the interpersonal adjustment of college freshmen by using the professional approach of social work.Fourth,the integration of sandplay therapy in group work is compatible with the improvement of interpersonal adjustment of college freshmen,and the results of the evaluation of group activities and interviews with group members indicate that the social work professional intervention of integrating sandplay therapy in group work to improve interpersonal adjustment of college freshmen has achieved some positive results.
