This is a report of English to Chinese consecutive interpretation practice, based on the E-C consecutive interpretation of two online interviews hosted by TED who interviewed Bill Gates in 2020.The content of the interviews are mainly about Bill Gates' views on the COVID-19 epidemic. The author summarized and analyzed the problems encountered in this consecutive interpretation practice and the interpretation strategies used to solve these problems. The source language material selected for this consecutive practice is a mode of online interview. In the interview, neither the interviewer nor the interviewee use official expressions. They are more colloquial, where metaphor are used often. Then the interpreter need to use interpretation skills to accurately explain the vehicle. At the same time, online interview is also a relatively relaxed interview mode. Both interviewer and the interviewee uses many parenthesis, repetitive statements and modal particles, etc.,make interpreter difficult to capture the logic in the source language, which leads to logical confusion in the target language. These points are the two main problems that the author encountered in this consecutive practice, and they are also the core content of this report. The author believes that, for metaphor rhetoric, the strategies of paraphrase and interchange can be adopted to make the interpretation conform to the Chinese cultural background so that the audience can accurately understand the meaning of the source language.Supplemented strategy and deverbalization can be used to solve the problem of logical confusion of the target language. This report can provide some references for other interpreters,so as to work out higher-quality interpretation.
