The development of science and technology not only brings convenience to our life,but also brings many problems.The life of the next generation is facing severe challenges.The education they receive now determines their future life and the development of the future society.In order to continuously improve the level of science and technology in order to occupy a dominant position in today's world competition,the United States proposed STEM education.After a long period of practice,the original STEM education has been added with artistic elements to form STEAM education.STEAM education is a kind of interdisciplinary,problem-based education that integrates real problem situations.It contains five elements of science,technology,engineering,art and mathematics.It focuses on cultivating students' ability to solve practical problems by comprehensively using the knowledge they have learned and improving students' comprehensive quality.Some studies have shown that STEAM education has a certain effect in cultivating students' comprehensive ability.Mathematics is the basis of other disciplines,and function is a very important content in mathematics.Since its birth,function has been closely related to the problems in real situations,and has been serving science and technology.German mathematician C.F.Klein(1849-1925)put forward the important idea of unifying mathematics education with the concept and thought of function.It can be seen that functions are closely related to various elements in STEAM education.Firstly,this paper uses the methods of literature research,comparative research and case study to find out the materials related to the function and the elements of STEAM education,and summarizes the problems that should be paid attention to in the function teaching design based on the STEAM education concept by analyzing two specific teaching designs,Then,on the basis of these contents,the teaching designs of some function contents based on STEAM education concept are made.The main work of this study is as follows:(1)From the knowledge point explanation,reading and thinking,mathematical activities,example exercises arrangement four aspects to sort out the scientific knowledge of function content in the PEP junior high school mathematics textbook.The results show that these four parts have the infiltration of scientific knowledge.Teachers should make full use of these scientific knowledge in teaching to help students understand the role of function in solving practical problems and the relationship between function and other disciplines.(2)The knowledge of other subjects involved in the content of function in mathematics textbooks is almost related to physics,and there is little knowledge of geography,chemistry and biology.The author then analyzes the junior high school biology,geography,chemistry and physics textbooks published by PEP from the two aspects of function thought and function knowledge points,and selects some examples to discuss the function content of these disciplines,so as to accumulate materials for the follow-up teaching design.(3)Collect and analyze the examples of technology,engineering and art,and discuss the relationship between function and technology,engineering and art from these examples.Through these examples,we can see the application of functions in technology,engineering and art.In classroom teaching,teachers can use the examples mentioned in this paper,or they can collect or develop some new examples to help students understand the wide application of functions and promote students' in-depth understanding of functions.(4)On the basis of the existing theoretical basis and knowledge,make the teaching design of part of the function content under the STEAM education concept.In this paper,we choose "variable and function","image of function","project learning options","explore the relationship between current and voltage" to carry out teaching design.This paper has certain theoretical and practical significance for practical teaching.In theory,the paper introduces the connection between function and science,technology,engineering and art through detailed examples.These contents let us truly see the connection between function and various elements in STEAM education concept,so as to provide knowledge basis for the teaching design of the integration of function and STEAM education concept.In practice,teachers can appropriately use some examples mentioned in this paper to create rich teaching situations and broaden students' horizons.
