| Nowadays,with the in-depth development of informatization,a high value should be put on the development of higher-order thinking ability.However,in the current classroom teaching of junior high school mathematics,educators are still working on exploring ways to improve students’ higher-order thinking ability since they haven’t fully understood the concept as well as the constituent elements of it.In the new curriculum reform,the importance of "Statistics and Probability" is particularly emphasized,which adapts to the requirements of the development of modern society for people’s abilities.Therefore,This paper will study “Statistics and Probability” in junior high schools based on the research of "Data Collection and Arrangement" from Grade Seven Students who use Shanghai Science Edited textbooks,in order to explore the cultivation state of students’ higher-order thinking ability in each grade by defining the components of higher-order thinking ability,making tests and questionnaires for teachers and analyzing the results.And then teaching strategies are given to improve teaching,which eventually will help front-line teachers think about how to improve teaching in the field of "Statistics and Probability" in order to develop students’ higherorder thinking ability.There are eight parts in this paper:The first part is the literature review where some relevant literatures are sorted and analyzed to find the pointcut for this research.The second part is the theoretical basis which mainly introduces Markov’s theory because it attaches great importance to the development of thinking,which is consistent with the topic of cultivating students’ higher-order thinking ability.The third part clarifies the concept of higher-order thinking ability.According to the educational requirements of "Statistics and Probability" in the Curriculum Standard,combined with the characteristics of probability statistics,the elements of higher-order thinking ability in this field are fully demonstrated.The forth par illustrates the test papers and questionnaires for teachers and the evaluation standards for them.The fifth part is about the tests procedures and its analysis.Also,the results are discussed in this part.According to the results of the experiment,the sixth part makes some suggestions for improving the high-order thinking ability of junior high school students by optimizing its strategies according to the opinions of excellent teachers.The seventh part shows the class records of "Data Collection" and "Mode and Median" based on the research results and improved strategies.The eighth part elaborates the innovation and deficiency of this research.There are three innovations in this paper.Firstly,it establishes the high-order thinking ability in the field of "Statistics and Probability" based on Markov’s theory;secondly,it compiles the measurement tool for high-order thinking ability in mathematics;finally,it proposes the training strategies based on the subject of mathematics.Here comes the shortcomings.First of all,it is very difficult to give the evaluation criteria,and there are still many improper or inappropriate explanations,so there will be a certain degree of subjectivity to the results;secondly,how to combine the cultivation of higher-order thinking ability and Markov’s theory is also a point that this research cannot achieve;the final teaching strategy combines the characteristics of mathematics;finally although the teaching strategy conforms to the characteristics of mathematics,it is only a methodology which requires teachers to practice in the teaching process to show whether it is appropriate. |
