In the process of industrialization and urbanization in China,influenced by the urban-rural dual system and structural differentiation,many young people go out to work and have to leave their children in the countryside and become left behind children.These left-behind children are prone to various problems in life and psychology due to the lack of parents' companionship and guidance during their growth.This paper takes the left behind children in village S of L City of Gansu Province as the research object.During the early investigation,it is found that the left behind children in this village generally have the problem of lack of self-confidence,which is manifested in such problems as low self-identity,lack of communication with people,passive answering questions in class and poor interpersonal initiative.After consulting data and specific analysis,the author analyzes the reasons of left behind children's lack of self-confidence from three aspects: left behind children themselves,left behind children's families and schools.In view of the problems of left behind children's self-confidence,this study is guided by the strengths perspective theory,the looking-glass self theory and the social support theory.Using the method of group work,we carried out seven self-confidence promotion group activities for left behind children in S village.The purpose of this study is to help the left behind children to understand and accept themselves through group activities,to find their own advantages,to improve their communication and expression ability,to improve interpersonal communication and resilience,and finally to help them rebuild their self-awareness and enhance their self-confidence.Through the evaluation and summary of the left behind children self-confidence promotion group,the author finds that through the intervention of social work professional methods,the self-confidence and ability in all aspects of group members have been improved,and the group objectives are basically achieved.But there are also some problems,such as the single method of social work intervention,the practical ability of social worker is not very good.We believe that after the improvement,social work can achieve better results in the process of intervention in the group of left behind children.
