As a mature literary genre,the novel reflects the social features in a period by depicting typical characters,and shows the connotation and characteristics of various ethnic cultures.Therefore,the novel is also known as the secret history of the nation.There are great differences between foreign novels and Chinese novels in expression and ideological connotation.In terms of expression skill,the foreign novels especially western novels don't pay attention to the integrity of plot structure,but depicting the characters' psychology to express the themes of novels;in terms of ideological connotation,criticality and humanism are the inherent qualities of foreign novels.No matter what genre,foreign novels always take it as their mission to pay attention to people's needs and criticize social disadvantages.Studying and appreciatiating the foreign novels,it is an important part of Chinese teaching in middle school.Foreign novels provide students with a multi-cultural vision,which is helpful for them to have a deeper understanding of society and life.It is of great significance to improve students' ability of text interpretation and aesthetic taste.Therefore,it is a very meaningful research topic to study the position of foreign novel in textbooks,explore the rules and value orientation of foreign novel selection.The researching targets foreign novels of new textbook.The first chapter systematically combs the history of foreign literature selection,and summarizes the selection of foreign literature works in the textbook.In the second chapter,on the basis of summarizing the selection criteria and value orientation of foreign novels,deeply analyzes the four systems of foreign novels and explores the editor's intention and the knowledge system.The third chapter,in terms of the actual teaching,explores the determination of foreign novel teaching content and put forward the teaching strategy suitable for foreign novels.
