As an important subject in high school education and teaching, high school biology course has its own significant characteristics,it is experiment-based,and the subject content has both theoretical and practical characteristics. Therefore, the teaching of biology requires a teaching mode that combines theory and practice—mutual inquiry teaching. In the context of comprehensively promoting quality education, mutual inquiry teaching has been incorporated into the new teaching mode. Many provinces, cities and regions in China have promoted the mutual inquiry teaching mode and have achieved certain results. In multi-ethnic areas like Xinjiang, due to historical and natural factors, the problem of poor teaching quality in the ethnic primary and middle schools education teaching, and gradually decreasing student population and low teaching standards is becoming increasingly prominent.Because of the obvious drawbacks of establishing a single ethnic school, such as the waste of educational resources and the disconnection of ethnic friendly relations,in order to meet the needs of social development, improve the teaching quality of ethnic primary and middle schools, and promote ethnic unity,Xinjiang began to carry out a full-scale mixed class arrangement of Min-Han school in2000.Since the implementation of joint schools and mixed classes across Xinjiang, the problems of wasted educational resources, narrow employment of ethnic graduates, and disconnected ethnic cultural intermingling in single-ethnic middle schools have obviously improved. However,as the education reform progresses, new problems emerge in the process of implementing the curriculum reform in China, the education departments and schools at the grassroots level have simply publicized the theory of mutual inquiry learning, without conducting in-depth research or promoting its implementation in the context of local or school realities.Based on the above problems, the author conducted a one-year experimental study in the senior class of the school where the author taught, after a thorough theoretical study,to explore the practical effects of mutual inquiry teaching in the context of high school biology under the background of the Min Han class. In order to fully demonstrate the feasibility of the mutual inquiry teaching model, two experimental classes and two corresponding control classes were selected based on students' entrance examination results. The experimental and control classes were taught with the same teachers, and the four classes were compared in terms of their performance, comprehension, and performance on a sample test.In addition,we conducted a one-year follow-up survey and questionnaire survey on the experimental classes to analyze and compare the differences in learning performance, students' communication, learning status, and cooperation and competition after the implementation of mutual aid and inquiry teaching,to analyze the impact of mutual aid and inquiry teaching on students' learning and learning initiative,to study teachers' classroom teaching strategies, and to understand the problems in teachers' teaching. We also analyzed the effect of mutual inquiry teaching on students' learning and learning initiative, studied teachers' classroom teaching strategies, understood teachers' problems in teaching, and provided reference for teaching in our school and region.Through the questionnaire survey and classroom observation,we found that compared with the control class, the students in the experimental class with mutual aid and inquiry teaching had significantly improved their interest in learning biology, learning status, initiative and cooperative inquiry ability, and 88% of the students in the questionnaire survey were satisfied with this teaching mode. The analysis of the results shows that the increase of the experimental class students' performance is significantly dominant and there is a significant difference(P<0.05).Thus,it can be concluded that compared with the traditional teaching mode, the mutual aid and inquiry teaching is more suitable for the school's situation, and it is helpful to cultivate students' interest in learning biology and their ability to communicate and cooperate,as well as their emotional and attitudinal values, and it can also promote some teachers to change their traditional teaching concepts and get in line with the new curriculum reform.
