The Emperor's New Clothes is a classic fairy tale which is written by Andersen,a fairy tale master.It has been selected into different versions of textbooks in China including Ministry of Education,Renjiao Education,Soviet Education Edition,and Beijing Normal University Edition.It has also been demonstrated by many famous teachers due to its significant value of teaching and research.Based on the thorough interpretation of the context and the study of relevant researches,we can link the text of The Emperor's New Clothes with reality,extract effective teaching content,propose practical pedagogical suggestions,and carry out teaching experiment.Further,we can study more about the content and explore the way we teach ‘fair tale'.The Emperor's New Clothes was selected into the seventh-grade first volume text.The introductions,pre-class tips,textbook illustrations,and after-school exercises all directed to these teaching objectives: students are able to retell,make the story map and summarize;with their imagination,they are able to add an ending to the story,rewrite or even act out the story;by various reading exercise,they are able to interpret the key sentences,understand the change of the characters through their experience,language,action,and the image of self-deception,duplicity adult and honest innocent,selfless and fearless children;by setting the context,they can also feel the "dark side of human nature and maintain a good virtue".Hopefully,their positive attitude to life could be activated and they can be inspired by what they learned.Teachers need to pay attention to these teaching directions when preparing lessons.40 participants involved in this study.140 students' questionnaires were collected and analyzed.The results showed four teaching problems in The Emperor's New Clothes: the teacher-center teaching method;the lack of further study of content;too much direct instructions and explanation and the lack of emotional experience;the lack of emphasis on the use of reasonable imagination,these problems need to be revealed and solved urgently.The Emperor's New Clothes is characterized as stylistic,exaggerate,fable and narrative.The character is full of contradictions and contrasts,the plot is absurd and exaggerated,the narrative has changed repeatedly,the imagination is strange and rich,and the meaning is universal and profound.It is also the reason why the "this one" text has become a classic.These contents should be valued by front-line teachers and used as the core teaching material.With ample studies of content,background and teaching problems,the following teaching suggestions can be concluded: to motivate students;teach in an interesting way;to read key sentences repeatedly,to analyze character images and narrative art;to attach importance to emotional experience,to understand the meaning of fairy tales;to create appropriate context,reasonable imagination and restoration.The teaching design case of Emperor's New Clothes which implements the teaching suggestions can provide a reference for front-line teachers.Thinking deeply and summarizing the teaching content and teaching methods of fairy tales is also helpful for teaching and studying of fairy tales.
